About KACS

What is a Charter School?

Charter schools are tuition-free public schools of choice that offer students something unique– whether it’s the curriculum, teaching style, flexibility, or whatever the school wishes to accomplish that differs from other schools. Parents have the option to choose an education that fits the needs of their family and child. Given the variety of school options, from which students may choose, charter schools are able to offer instructional, social and extracurricular experiences that neighborhood schools may not. For instance, charter schools can offer a more challenging curriculum or a better support system. Charter schools help students excel, flourish, meet their academic goals, and prepare them for college and other future endeavors, while still meeting state regulations and academic expectations.

History of KACS

The school opened its doors in 2007 serving students in grades K-4. Each year, a grade level was added until the enrollment included a diverse student population of kindergarten through eighth graders. During the 2016-2017 school year, Keystone Academy moved to its current location- a combination of the renovated historic Mary Disston School joined to a newly constructed building.

The mission of Keystone Academy is to provide students with a rigorous academic program using a concentrated science and mathematics curriculum that employs the use of integrated technology. The school, which continues to serve a diverse student population from both in and around the Philadelphia region, provides students with a rigorous academic program, opportunities for social and emotional growth, an appreciation for the arts, and opportunities to help our community through charitable works and service learning projects.
